The LOC-Precision's R2/ARO model rocket is a sport/scale version of the Russian R-2 ballistic missile of the post-WWII era. It uses a single F- to I-class motor for flights to over 2200 feet! This is a model that any self-respecting hobbyist should have, as its real-life counterpart sits squarely at the beginning of the Cold War race to ICBM dominance. See historical note below.
Over 38" tall, this HPR-capable kit builds rock-solid, thanks to LOC-Precision's top-quality components. It features a massive plastic nosecone and a slotted plastic tailcone for TTW fin mount. The kit comes complete with heavy duty airframe and 38mm motor mount tubes, high-grade precision-cut plywood fins, centering rings, rip-stop nylon parachute, polypropylene nose cone / tailcone and instructions. Downloadable decal art allows the "dressing" of the kit as the Russian R-2 or as the X-Prize Canadian Arrow (see inset, above).
A 1/4" launch rod is required and positive engine retention is recommended (sold separately).

Historical Note:
In late 1946, Marshal Zhigarev, the Commander-in-Chief of the Soviet Air Force, allegedly told Soviet Air Force scientist G. Tokady, "We must admit that our A-4-type rockets do not satisfy our long-term needs; they were good to frighten England, but should there be an American-Soviet war, they would be useless; what we really need are long-range, reliable rockets capable of hitting target areas on the American continent."
However, as early as the summer of 1946, during his stay in Germany, Sergei Korolev, the leader of the Soviet post-war rocket research, had already started to draft a Russian successor to the A-4, later designated as R-2. It was to be equipped with larger fuel tanks and with a more powerful engine. As a result, the rocket could reach up to 600 km range, i.e. twice as much as that of the A-4.
The R-2 ballistic missile was the first Russian departure from German rocket technology inherited by the USSR at the end of World War II.
